Direction

This week presented a unique opportunity to develop a playful visual identity and campaign materials designed to evoke fun, inclusion, and positivity. Whether creating social media graphics or event signage, approachability remained at the center of the message. The campaign was crafted to reflect the spirit of campus unity, encourage movement, and promote education in every piece.

This project gave University Recreation the freedom to move beyond UNC Charlotte’s typically strict brand guidelines. To capture a sense of naturalism and childlike fun, employed was an intentionally imperfect illustrative style, softening the campaign and making it feel less formal and more inviting.

Process

The process began with hand-drawn icons created on an iPad Pro using Procreate. These illustrations were then converted into vectors in Linearity Curve, allowing for refined yet organic input. Curve’s seamless export to Illustrator further streamlined the workflow, making the transition feel effortless. Final refinements and all layout design were completed in Illustrator on a MacBook Pro. The campaign then underwent critique from colleagues and my supervisor, whose feedback was used to fine-tune the details and ensure the success of the campaign.

Deliverables

The campaign existed entirely in the digital space. Deliverables included a logo, daily icons, a brand identity guide for other designers, email attachments, a website banner, digital signage for the week (and for Wednesday in particular), and daily Instagram Stories. Additional layouts were created for various campus event boards, profile icons, and alternate aspect ratios of the digital signage. The team also produced daily videos to share online.
